The Society presents the award which is made possible by a grant from the Take Off Pounds Sensibly Foundation.

The award narrative describes Dr. Jensen’s “pioneering research that identifies metabolic differences between different adipose tissue depots in humans. Using novel methods that he developed to assess the metabolic functions of human adipose tissue in vivo in both the fasted and fed state, he was able to demonstrate clear differences in rates of lipolysis in fat from the different regions of the body.”

Dr. Jensen has received international media attention in recent years for his work, most recently for his paper in PNAS differentiating how fat cells develop. He is a former president of the Obesity Society. The TOPS award includes a $5,000 prize.
