The San Diego Convention Center looks like the United Nations this week, but the common language is bioscience. BIO 2014 is in full swing, with roughly 17,000 people in the building. That’s my estimate; others vary. The Minnesota pavilion is showcasing the bioscience industries in the state as well as the University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic. Vice President for Research, Brian Herman was on hand, as was Secretary of State Mark Ritchie. Mayo is promoting its strategic centers on Individualized Medicine, Regenerative Medicine and the Science of Health Care Delivery. Rochester’s Destination Medical Center is also represented. DMC has a growing story to tell and will be a bigger part of the Minnesota effort here in years to come. The conference lasts through the week with institutions, states and most of the nations on the globe talking about their biotech efforts.
