Mayo Clinic was one of four institutions recently named as recipients of a SHARP award by the Department of Health and Human Services. SHARP stands for Strategic Health IT Advanced Research Projects. A total of $60 million was awarded. Some of the briefer announcements of this award didn't make clear that the institutions share this funding (in Mayo's case, $15 million over five years) with a consortium of public and private research collaborators that came together to submit the grant applications. In other words, each recipient institution "hosts" the award. We offer this in clarification as there's been some apparent confusion. The other three institutions are Harvard University, the University of Texas Health Science Center and the University of Illinois.
